Winifred M. Gegg

Winifred Mary Gegg of Phoenix went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 27, 2014 at the Sherman Hospice Home. Winnie was born June 24, 1926 to Fred and Dulcie (Geary) Gegg in Prescott, Arizona. She attended St. Joseph’s Academy and was graduated magna cum laude from Mount Saint Mary’s College in Los Angeles with a degree in chemistry. She was employed by Shell Development in San Francisco and then spent the majority of her career with Motorola in Phoenix. Winnie was devoted to social justice: serving on committees at St. Francis Xavier Church and thoughtfully supporting those whose needs were overlooked. After retiring, she enjoyed volunteering with the Women’s Health Initiative for many years. Generously donating to humanitarian, environmental, and medical advocacy causes was a meaningful part of her life and helped her feel a strong connection to helping others. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Parish. Winnie enjoyed traveling and visited several continents and countries including Kenya, Nepal, Greece, Brazil and Italy. A long-time lover of the opera, she enjoyed performances in Santa Fe and New York City on numerous occasions. Winnie was preceded in death by her parents and sister Eleanor. She is survived by her sisters Joan (Charles) Fornara and Marjorie (Raymond) Trengove and their children Marilyn Wilcox, John, Jim, Chuck, and Joe Fornara; David, Mark, Stephen, Kenny and Mary Trengove, many great-nieces and nephews and two great-great nieces. She is also survived by cousins Nancy Geary Church, Eddie, Mike Geary, Nancy Blom and Betty Sneeringer.
