William Wayne Loughrige was born November 23, 1961 on Thanksgiving Day to William Jesse Loughrige, Jr and Mildred Jean Loughrige (Gustafson). Lovingly referred to by his mother as her “Turkey”, Wayne was a calm and gentle giant. Wayne’s law enforcement career spanned 32 years with the Maricopa County Sheriff, the Mesa Police Department and most recently was a Patrol Lieutenant for the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office. The mountain community of Walker and the family homestead was an important part of his life, having spent a large portion of his youth there. An avid hunter and outdoorsman he was an excellent marksman. Wayne was active with the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, helping to produce the annual Western National Shoot for that organization. Wayne was a proud father to his seven children and one grandson. He was kind and respectful to all he met, and had a large extended family. Quick witted and master at spinning yarns, gatherings with friends and family were never dull. He will be deeply missed. Wayne is survived by his wife Kristine Maggard-Loughrige, his parents Bill & Millie Loughrige, his sister’s Joyce Loughrige, Allison Loughrige Greenhalgh, brother-in-law Matt Greenhalgh, nieces Madeline and Vivian. His son’s Aaron Loughrige, Nicholas Loughrige and Jack Gasho, his daughter’s Jennifer Lynn Loughrige Miller, Melissa Gasho, Kristina King Loughrige, and his grandson Avrik. A brother Kenneth Carl Loughrige predeceased him in 1964. Kris’s parents Charlie and Elaine Maggard, Sister-in-law Teresa Schlemeyer.
