William Lee Sumner, age 87 of Prescott died Tuesday October 25, 2005 in the New Horizon Adult Care Center, Prescott Valley. William was born July 19, 1918 the son of John Franklin and Mary Ruth (Andersen) Sumner in Breckenridge, TX. He began his career with the Santa Fe Railroad as a brakeman and reitred as the yardmaster of the Sante Fe Depot on Sheldon Street in Prescott. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He married the former Ruth Yarbrough on June 5, 1939. William was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church in Dewey, AZ., which he helped build. He had been a deacon of the church for over 40 years and had enjoyed traveling in his RV helping others build their churchs. He also enjoyed fishing and working for God. He was most proud of his work with the church and his marrige of 64 years to his wife Ruth, and his whole family. William is lovingly survived by his children and thier spouses, Jon G. and Shari Sumner of Prescott, O. Michael and Diana Sumner of Paradise Valley and Judy and Ron King of Prescott; his grandchildren Toni, Traci, Brenda, Jon and Michael; his 6 great grandchildren Tommy, C.J., Justin, Heather, Wade and Kate. Also by a sister Mozelle Dean of Phoenix; sisters-in-law Blanch Sumner and Margie Sumner both of Albuqurque, NM. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, 3 brothers J.C., Frank and Oren Sumner who was killed on the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor. Memorials may be made to donors favorite christian charity.
