William Alan Doheney

William A. Doheney
William (Bill) Alan Doheney, 73, of Prescott, AZ, died Friday, June 16, 2023, at Northern Arizona Veterans Health Administration Community Living Center.
Born in Long Beach, CA, Bill's life was distinguished by his ability to make friends, devotion to his family, and by service to his community. As a teenager, Bill played the drums in a garage band called The Grapes of Wrath, and though the band broke up, Bill continued to play for church praise teams and family. As a young father, he served in the United States Air Force as a Fire Protection Specialist at Vandenberg AFB and overseas in Stuttgart, Germany. Throughout his 30-year career in Defense and Space Electronics, Bill worked on fascinating projects, including his work at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's National Ignition Facility with the Planetary Defense Team and NASA to deter inbound asteroids.
No matter how busy he was, Bill had a knack for looking out for others and making a difference in his community. He became a City Council Member for the City of Brentwood, CA, where he could often be seen at the local Brentwood Cafe drinking coffee and chatting with his constituents. For years, "Teacher Bill" and his wife taught Sunday school at Golden Hills Community Church and helped exceptional children to learn how to work with the horses on their ranch in Brentwood. Bill shared his love of the outdoors, camping in Yosemite, building rockets, and his love of the Lord with his children, grandchildren, and anyone who would listen to him.
Later in life, Bill's passions were his garden and amateur radio (73 from AA6GI). Always, his abiding love for his wife, Pamela, his partner of 51 years, was the truest hallmark of his character.
Bill is survived by his wife, Pamela Corinne Doheney of Prescott, AZ; his son, Shaun W. Doheney of Stafford, VA; his two daughters, Erin S. Soule of Big Bear, CA, and Kelly D. Doheney of Prescott, AZ; his brother, Clyde T. Doheney of Newbury Park, CA; his six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, William C. Doheney, and his mother, Mary M. Doheney.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 8, at Westside Christian Church in Prescott, AZ, where Bill was a member for over seven years.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bill to the Northern Arizona VA Health Care System or Phoenix VAMC 600 via the VA Center for Development and Civic Engagement donation portal would be greatly appreciated.
