Walter L Matlock

Walter L Big Walt Matlock Jr. was born on December 5, 1927 and went to be with our Lord on November 23, 2010. Big Walt was survived by Jean, his loving wife of 64 years, his three children Marilynn, Steve and Bruce, five grandchildren Walter, Katie, Jesse, Sasha and Sierra, one great granddaughter Taylor Reece and an older brother Matt.

Big Walt lived a full and interesting life that included community service from always giving a hand to sports, education and even ran for public office. In 1947, he left the family farm in Arkansas and started a new journey in Arizona with his bride, Jean. He was the GM and spokesperson for Blakeley Service Stations and an entrepreneur, owning his own Shell Station in the 1950s. Walt went on to spend over 30 years on the road as a line driver, starting with Alabam Freight Lines where he completed over a million miles with a perfect safety record. In later years, Big Walt sold furniture at La-Z-Boy. Rebuilding vintage farm tractors was his passion in his spare time.

Family was his number one priority and he was a wonderful loving father to his children and grandchildren. Work hard and play hard was Walts motto. His quick wit was always present with a clever story or a joke to brighten the moment or entertain any crowd. He was a man's man who loved sports, the Arizona outdoors and to hang out with his kids and their friends. Walter touched many lives in a positive way and he will be greatly missed.
