Wallace Irving Hunter

Wally moved to Phoenix in 1931. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy June 19, 1941.  He was assigned aboard the U.S.S. Portland Cruiser stationed at Pearl Harbor (the Portland along with a convoy left Pearl Harbor several days before December 7th).  After participating in several major sea battles, (including the Coral Sea and Midway battles) the U.S.S. Portland was hit during the Battle of Guadalcanal.  On February 1943 Mr. Hunter was transferred to the U.S.S. San Juan and in 1944 the U.S.S. Yakatat.  He was discharged in November 1945.  He was a member of Masonic Aztlan Lodge #1 and the Phoenix Scottish Rite. Mr. Hunter became a licensed hearing aid dispenser and was employed in California and Phoenix before moving to Prescott in 1966 where he established the Hunter?s Hearing Aid Company. He is survived by his brother, Kenneth Hunter of Fullerton, CA, sister, Dorothy Martin of Prescott, AZ, 13 nieces and nephews.  All will miss him and his great humor. Preceding him in death were his two sisters, Mary Jane Roush of Phoenix and Patricia Stevens of Fountain Hills, AZ. Services will be held at the Wakelin Funeral Home on Thursday, December 8, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with the burial at the Heritage Memorial Park Cemetery at 1:00 p.m..
