Virgil R. Bennett died Tuesday, August 3, at Yavapai Regional Medical Center. Virgil was born June 20, 1920 in Belle Fourche, South Dakota to Dora and Rollie Bennett. He was 90 years old.Virgil was an only child. His family lived in Nisland and Eagle Butte, South Dakota, before moving to Greenville,Iowa. He graduated from Greenville High in 1938. There he met Evelyn Nissen, also a Greenville High graduate, and they were married on August 16, 1942.Virgil served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. After he was discharged, he and Evelyn lived in Rapid City, South Dakota, where he was self employed as a barber. In 1975, they moved to Prescott, and Virgil worked at Fred?s Barber Shop in the Goodwin Street Plaza until retirement. He was a volunteer at Bob Stump Veterans? Adminstration Medical Center, a member of First Congregational Church, where he served on the Board of Deacons, and a lifetime member and Commander of V.F.W. Post # 541.He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Evelyn; daughters, Sandra Bennett, Rebecca (Mitch Stewart) Bennett and Constance (Bill) Keeling and grandson Patrick Keeling.
