Verna C. Mcclure

Verna C. McClure, the matriarch of our family and a shining example to us all. She left this earth , bound for heaven on Aug. 30, 2011. Mom leaves left behind a legacy of kindness and giving and a family who loved her deeply.
Mom was born May 16, 1924 in Shelburn, Indiana to Harry and Hazel Moore. After graduating from high school she joined the U.S. Navy and served honorably during World War II as a jeep mechanic. It was there that she met the love of her life, Harry Noble McClure, whom she later married on December 18, 1945. Noble proceeded her in death on December 19, 1979 and we are all grateful that Moms love and acceptance of Jesus Christ as the True Savior will allow her to once again be joined by Dad and our brother Wilbur.
Mom and Dad moved to Bagdad, AZ in October of 1957. Dad went to work for the mine and Mom stayed home to raise her children, In 1962 she decided she would help out and went to work for the Bagdad Public School System as a custodian. This led to Mom starting her own business in 1975. She remained active in the business until her retirement at the age of 80 in 2004.
Over 300 employees worked for McClures Cleaning Service at one time or another during its 29 year run. All of these employees became like family to Mom and she dearly loved each and every one of them. Her dedication to these good friends and her desire to always treat people the way that she wanted to be treated made her a successful businesswoman and a pillar of the community.
Mom loved to play the slots and would often invite family and friends along on her many trips to Laughlin. She became a regular fixture in Laughlin and more times than not she came home a big winner. One of her great joys was taking her grandchildren on their first trip to the casino on their 21st birthday.
Mom spent the last 5 years living with her son Greg and his wife Melinda. They provided a wonderful loving home for her, first in Elko, NV, and then in Payson, AZ. Mom loved living in Elko and Payson but always considered Bagdad her home.
Besides gambling Vernas interests included family, gardening, sightseeing and exploring, and reading. She also put a lot of time and energy into her many friends and was always happy when she would hear from them.
Mom is survived by her children, Harry Red McClure of Bagdad, Judy (Manuel) DeLeon of Wittman, AZ, Bill McClure of Abingdon, VA, and Greg (Melinda) McClure of Payson, Arizona , 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson. She also leaves behind her brother Wayne and his wife Ruth Moore, her sister Evelyn Kendal and special friends, Velma Lyman, Evelyn Denton, Elizabeth McClure, Pam McClure, Mary Napier, Trisha Sandoval, Sharon Morgan, Darby, Shannon Bricker and her pet, Miss Kitty.
She is preceded in death by her parents Harry and Hazel Moore, her beloved husband, Noble McClure, Bills twin Wilbur, sister, Gertrude and her husband Forest Jennings, brothers Eugene Moore, Clarence Moore, and Leon Moore.
The family is thankful for the wonderful and caring staff at the Hospice Compassus of Payson for their open and candid communication with us and for doing what they could to make Moms exit from this earth as peaceful as possible.

Service:
A Celebration of Vernas life will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, Sepember 2 at Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, 303 South Cortez St, Prescott, AZ. With visitation one hour prior A private burial is planned on Saturday at Genung Cemetery in Peoples Valley, AZ
