Vera Bailey Burns, 78, passed away on May 12 at the Prescott Marley House. She was born Vera Elaine Bailey on April 23, 1939 in Tulsa Oklahoma. Vera and her family moved to Prescott in 1976, where she fell in love with the Groom Creek community and its beautiful surroundings. Here, she raised her children and developed a passion for gardening and canning that later became a passion for mini farming complete with a goat and chickens. Having and ardent sense of adventure, she loved to travel the backroads of Arizona - seeking out ancient ruins, ghost towns, and mining communities long forgotten. With a barn full of tools, she had an uncanny ability to tackle any project from fixing a broken pipe to building an addition onto her house from scratch. For many years Vera was an active volunteer at the Sharlot Hall Museum where she later became involved with the Quilter’s Club. Her passion for needlework and quilting grew over the years and she has created nearly 100 beautiful quilts, won numerous ribbons, and was accepted into the Quilter’s Hall of Fame. Vera was a generous and loving, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. A remarkable woman. Her strong will and outspoken spirit will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her. May the Angels lead you in…We love you forever! Vera is survived by her son Donald Mountain and his wife Kathy; daughter Laura Mountain; son Christopher Mountain; grand-daughter Alicia (Mountain) Gomez; grandson Benjamin Barnes; grand-daughter Rachel Barnes; grand-daughter Avery Levin; great grand-children Alejandro, Ayden, and Allias Gomez; Nieces Kim Appleton, Kelli Thomas, and Kara Johnson.Preceded in death by her parents Elwyn and Marida Bailey; sister Carol King Walker; husbands Don Mountain, John Burns, and Sonny Owens.
In lieu of flowers, Vera has requested that donations be made to the Prescott Presbyterian Church or Sharlot Hall Museum
