Thomas 'Tom' R. Pratt

Tom Pratt, 62, passed away December 4, 2012 at home in Prescott. He was born August 19, 1950 to Fred & Peggy (Pierce) Pratt in Carlsbad, CA. Tom was a member of the Chicago Cubs baseball organization and enjoyed surfing, fishing, and, most importantly, his family and coaching baseball. He was proudest of his family and the players he coached. Over the course of two decades, Tom led two Prescott-area high school baseball teams to state championships. He led the Chino Valley Cougars to Class 3A championship titles in 1997 & 1998, and Prescott Valley's Bradshaw Mountain Bears to a 2A championship game in 1983. Tom also served as a coaching assistant at Arizona State University and the University of Nebraska. Becoming a pitching coach for the Chicago Cubs' organization farm teams, he helped coach pitchers for over 10 years. Altogether, Tom spent more than 40 years in the sport he loved as a player, coach, and as a scout for the Montreal Expos and Anaheim Angels. He is survived by his wife of 34 years Peggy; son Andy Pratt of Peoria, AZ; daughter Amy Pratt of Dallas, TX; mother Jackie Pratt of Sacramento, CA; sister-in-law Linda Cleghorn of Phoenix, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews in California. Tom's Celebration of Life will be held 3 pm Sunday, January 6, 2013 in Phoenix, AZ. The exact location will be updated on this website as plans are solidified.
