Stewart Kevin Brooks

Stewart “Kevin” Brooks was born on February 29th, 1956 in Westminster, California to Harry and Nancy Brooks (Altman).  He was the fourth son born to Harry & Nancy. The family lived in Saint George Utah and Boulder City Nevada for a short while before settling in Ashfork Arizona.  Kevin fondly recalled countless boyhood adventures with his five brothers in and around Ashfork. He attended Prescott High School, where his Basketball team is in the hall of fame for their winning 1973 season.  He graduated from PHS with the class of 1974. Kevin joined the Navy shortly after graduation and served on a submarine for a two year term. When his enlistment term was over, he moved back to Arizona, finding himself in the Prescott area where he fell in love with & married Lynn Helvig. The newlyweds moved to Texas, as Kevin worked on the Oil Riggs for a while, and they soon began their family. While in Texas they had two sons, Jarod and Adam. They moved back to Prescott in 1982 where they had three more sons, Kyle, Elden & Darin. Kevin worked hard during the years he and Lynn were raising their brood. They were both very active in their church, serving those around them and holding many callings over the years.  Kevin was awarded the Top Gun award for sales from Big O tires in 1997. His employment caused the family to move around a lot. The family lived in Pinetop, Flagstaff and Kingman- they also did a short tour of northern Utah before moving back to Prescott. Kevin and Lynn spent their years together focusing on helping their sons succeed and find happiness.  Kevin expressed his love & pride for his sons and their individual achievements. He always strived to provide a better life for his children & encouraged them to do the same.  He was diagnosed with an aggressive form of ALS in October of 2017. He was called home by our Heavenly Father on June 7th 2018. Kevin is survived by his eternal companion Lynn as well as their five sons and their wives, along with their fifteen grandchildren.  He is also survived by his four remaining brothers, Kenny, Kerry, Kregg & Kwinn. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, June 16th at the 1001 N. Ruth Street LDS building at 1:00pm.   Please join the family in an opportunity to express their faith, love and memories of Kevin’s life and unique personality. Kevin was preceded in death by his parents.  His mother, brother (Keith), an uncle and cousins were also taken by the same disease.  In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to the ALS organization in his name.
