Socorro C. Gray was born on June 27, 1926 in Villa Escobedo, Chihuahua, Mexico. Socorro immigrated to the United States at the age of 14 where she resided with her Aunt and Uncle, Leonor and Marin Burrola. She graduated high school in El Paso, Texas and married Harley H. Gray on July 15th 1950. Socorro and her husband moved to Drake, Arizona in 1953 after the birth of their first child Harley Jr. Socorro=s two other children, Nancy and Carl, were born in Prescott Arizona in 1955 and 1958. Socorro began her working career in 1970 when she went to work at the Yavapai College cafeteria, later becoming a dietician at Fort Whipple Veterans Administration. Her husband Harley died in 1993. After retirement from Ft. Whipple V.A.,
Socorro became a devoted volunteer and worked diligently for many causes: St. Vincent de Paul Charity, the Adoration Society, served receptions for funeral masses at the Sacred Heart Church, and the Catholic Charities Community Cupboard. Socorro travelled on missions with Sister Anne to Japan, Israel and Mexico. She is survived by two sons, a daughter, 8 grandchildren, 11 great grand-children, a brother, a sister, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
