Sarah (Sally) C. Veil

Sarah (“Sally”) C. VeilSarah Veil, known as Sally to friends and family, passed away on January 19, 2019 at the age of 78. Born in Washington. Pennsylvania on October 13, 1940, to Marshall and Katharine Clarke, she attended the East Washington public schools and went on to graduate from Chatham College in Pittsburgh in 1962 with a BA degree in Psychology.

Shortly thereafter she married Fred W. Veil and the couple moved to Quantico, Virginia followed by Jacksonville, North Carolina, where Fred served as a commissioned officer in the United States Marine Corps. Her son, Mark, was born, in 1963, while Fred was on deployment in the Caribbean.

After moving to the Pittsburgh area in 1965, Sally gave birth to her daughter, Jodie. The family subsequently moved to Huntington Station, Long Island, New York, returning to the Pittsburg area in 1968. Five years later they relocated to the Philadelphia suburban community of Berwyn, where Sally continued to raise her children to high school age, after which she obtained her certification as a paralegal and took a position with the prestigious Philadelphia law firm of Dechert Price and Rhoades where she worked in the litigation department. She retired from that firm in 1998, and two years later moved with her husband to Prescott.

In retirement, Sally was an avid golfer, bridge player, and longtime volunteer at the Sharlot Hall Museum. She served two terms as President of the Antelope Hills Women’s Golf Club and for more than 15 years coordinated the contact bridge group at the City’s Adult Center. Her passion was the Museum, where until recently she coordinated its tour program for both school children and adults, scheduling the tours as well as arranging for the volunteer guides that led them. Sally also volunteered in the Museum store, admissions, and all of the Museum’s annual festivals and events.

Sally is survived by her husband of 56 years, as well as her two children, Mark of Dover, New Hampshire, Jodie of Seattle, Washington, and granddaughter Anika Utke, also of Seattle.

She will be interred at the Prescott National Cemetery Columbarium.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Persons who wish to remember Sally may make a donation in her name to the Sharlot Hall Museum.
