Ruth Olga Barth

Ruth Olga Barth passed away January 31, 2013 as a result of a massive stroke. She was born in Los Angeles, CA on September 12, 1927 to Ole Andrew and Helga Marie (nee Andersen) Doblough, both Norwegian immigrants. Ruth was valedictorian of the Winter 1945 class at John H. Francis Polytechnic High School. At the end of the war, in 1946 she married the love of her life, Charles Arthur Barth, moving from LA to his home in Philadelphia. Over the years, Ruth and Art had many travel adventures, including extensive camping trips with their children throughout the USA, and into Canada and Mexico. Their trips together, through much of the world, were fun, educational, and sometimes perilous. After living and working in Iran for over a year, they left the country minutes after the Shah flew into exile. Throughout her life, Ruth greatly enjoyed music, playing piano and singing harmonies with her children. After retiring, in 1982 Ruth and Art moved to Prescott, AZ. They studied geology, and became very active in the Arizona Archeological Society, where they made lasting friendships. Strengthened by her deep love for her family, and thanks to her many friends and activities, Ruth got out and about often and had an interesting and happy life. Ruth was a devoted wife to Art, her husband of 55 years. She took care of him at home when he became ill, and also her son, John David; they died in 2002 and 2001 respectively. She kept her positive attitude, and remained supportive of conservation, education, numerous charities, church, and disadvantaged Indian children. She is survived by her son Charles Arthur (Kathleen); daughter Dorothy Marie; grandson Chas (Kristin) and great-grandchildren Matthew and Nathan; and grandson Clifton (Charis) and great-grandchildren Corban and Miriam.
