Roy D. Thomas died Sunday, April 17, 2011 at the west campus of the Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott, Arizona. He was born September 28, 1939 in Atoka, Oklahoma; the son of J.R. and Vera (Daws) Thomas. Roy was 71 years old.
Most everyone who knew Roy knew him as "Duke". His family moved to Arizona when he was 1 year old. Roy worked on the Texas oil rigs as a rough neck and also as a truck driver for J.H. Rose company. He loved Arizona and spent many years living in Arizona. In the 70's he lived in Apache Junction, the 80's Anchorage, Alaska, and then in 1988 back to Prescott, Arizona.
Roy loved Harley's, guns, boats and flee markets. You could find Roy just about every weekend at the Prescott Valley swap meet. He made Congress, Arizona his home for the last 14 years.
Roy is survived by his love of 17 years, Joyce Cooley, children; Randy Arnold Thomas, Frank Dwane Thomas, Kimberly Ann Powell, Michelle Dawn Thomas, and Jessie Dwain Thomas. He preceds his brother, Robert Arnold Thomas, who died in 1989.
A private cremation will take place at the Bradshaw Crematory in Prescott Valley. No services are planned at this time.
