Rodessier (Rodie) Lattin

Rodessier Lattin, was born November 21, 1924 to Godfrey Lattin and Fannie Green Lattin of Gloster, LA; both preceded her in death. She married George Dorsey of Neighborton, LA, who preceded her in death. The children born to Rodessier and George were: William H. Dorsey (Glendale, AZ), Raymond Dorsey (Houston, TX) and Linda Dorsey (Glendale, AZ). From them there were Sons-in-Law and Daughters-in-Law. She adopted two other children in her more active years. Johnny James Mayes (Houston, TX) who preceded her in death and Joy Riles (Glendale, AZ). From all of her children she had eight grand children, two preceded her in death: Gregory Piert (Lake View Terrace, CA) and Michael Dorsey (Glendale, AZ). Six remain to this day: Reginald Piert (Lake View Terrace, CA), Jason Dorsey (Lake View Terrace, CA), Ky’erra Miracle Dorsey (Houston, TX), Stacy Mays (Jacksonville, FL), Brandii Mays (Austin, TX), and Jammie Mays (Saudi Arabia). She also has great-grandchildren Jason Dorsey II (Phoenix, AZ), Chriysten Piert (Lake View Terrace, CA), and Marisia Piert (Lake View Terrace, CA). She also had three mutual adoptions of others: Patsy Hogan (Houston, TX),Delma Hogan (Houston, TX), and Karen Chance (Glendale, AZ). Karen loved Rodie and Rodie loved Karen. Karen and Rodie spent lots of time together. Rodie was well cared for by Karen, and Rodie was always excited to see her. Karen was very special to Rodie. Then there are others we had not known about. Yes we knew them, but we did not know that they were in Rodie’s heart, and they in hers. We did not know that Rodie had mutually adopted other people and the great and powerful love that existed between – not until they began to share their relationship after her passing. The sound was familiar and should have been detected. Rodessier was the oldest of nine siblings. Eight preceded her in death, six brothers and two sisters. Her brothers were: Ory Lee Lattin, Willie Fred Lattin, Jim Lattin, John Latin, Odell Lattin, Roscoe Lattin; her sisters: Allie Jean Goods and Nettie Bell Fuselier. All preceded her in death. From them there were in-laws. From her sibling’s families are a great host of nieces and nephews residing from California to Houston, TX. All of them, she loved and respected to the highest. Most of all, she was very close to each of them, in her own way. She was a type of Harriet Tubman of her family and friends. She was directly instrumental in assisting, monetarily leading five families to migration from Houston to California. Two sisters, her daughter, two brothers, two husbands, and a son with his wife made the transition within ten (10) years. This was not even to count the children totaling about seventeen. Then she moved, driving to California by herself to assist her family. Many of them called her “Mother Goose.” Rodie has had a very interesting life with God. She went to God early in her life. Most likely she was doing this obedience because her family was very religious. Many, many years later she found Christ, and Christ found her. They have had a very interesting relationship. She loved the Lord, and the Lord loved her. She loved to sing his praises and pray to him. As she spent time with Him in her days, even at her low moments someone could start a hymn and she would join in. One day the nurse was asked if it was okay for her to talk and sing, and she gave Rodie an open road to praise the Lord in song. In prayer she expressed constantly how she was waiting on the Lord to come and get her. After speaking with her about her request to see the Lord, she simply looked and continued to give thanks, and request his presence. In her final days, the Lord’s name never left her lips. Rodie not only kept the Lord’s name on her lips, but she would encourage others to seek His goodness. She has a history of starting bible studies wherever she was. She would invite as many as she could get to hear the word of God. Rodessier has been a monument to the weak and deprived; a pillar of strength and a leaning post for many in trouble; and a guiding beacon of light to all who preceded and succeed her in life. She has pioneered and led the way with the how to live, contributing to all that knew her and needed help, a safe harbor. It is difficult to see, witness or understand how this meager woman provided for so many, so much, with so little – not only monetarily, but with steadfastness, encouragement and love. In her life, she also made many friends and companions. She lived 87 years, 9 months, and 1 day.
