Robert L. (Bob) Burns

Robert L. (Bob) Burns of Prescott passed away on August 19th at the age of 83. He was born September 18, 1925 in Cherokee, Iowa. During his early childhood, his family lived near Washta, Iowa, where his remains will be interred. He attended shcools in Washta and Buckhorn, Missouri and was a graduate of Wilson High School in Cherokee. He received an AA degree from Mount SAC in Walnut, California. Robert entered the US Army on March 22, 1944 and remained in the Army for 30 years. He served in World War II, the Korean War and twice in Vietnam. He retired in 1974 with the rank of CW4. His awards include three Bronze stars, the Combat Infantryman's badge and the Legion of Merit as well as numberous other medals. After his retirement he worked for Marshall Industries in El Monte, California, for 17 years. He and his wife, Shirley were married July 12, 1975. They resided in Hacienda Heights, California, until they moved to Prescott in 1994. Robet was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Mary (Ralston) Burns, an infant brother, his frist wife, Iphigenia and his sister Lois (Burns) Peters. He is survived by his wife, Shirley and three children from his previous marriage, son Norman (Barbara) of Ames, Iowa; daughter, Sharon (Dennis) Gibson; daughter, Carla Jean (Edward) Hanson of Des Moines, Iowa; sister, Donna (Arlen) Tucker of Washta, Iowa; 9 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
