Robert (Bob) Knight Grosscup passed away Oct. 20, 2008, in Prescott, Ariz., at age 93. Born Sept. 29, 1915, in Wenonah, N.J., to George C. and Emily Knight Grosscup, Bob was the fourth of five siblings: Ed, George, Doris and Jack.The family moved to south Chicago where he was a member of the swim team and graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1933. Much of his early life wasshaped by his participation in Boy Scouts. He rose to Eagle Scout and order of the Arrow (3rd), and was active then and into the 1960s as a Boy Scout leader. He continued his public service in retirement as a volunteer, and often leader, in many organizations, including the Prescott Noon Lions, KeepPrescott Beautiful, Prescott Litter Lifters, Unity Church, Feed the Hungry, Prescott Symphony, Prescott Outings Club and the Church of Spiritual Living.A few years ago he was honored as Yavapai County Philanthropist of the Year.He participated in physical fitness classes at Yavapai College for 26 years.Starting work selling morning newspapers at the train station in south Chicago before school and delivering wrapped "prescriptions" for the local pharmacy by night during the ¹20s, he entered the work force as a steamfitter¹s helper in the Chicago stockyards. After high school, he attended business night school at Northwestern University. During theDepression he shared an apartment and pooled his earnings with his siblings and mother to make ends meet. He went to work for W. J. Wrigley Co. in the confectionary business, including packing K rations for the troops in support of the WWII effort. He moved on to various sales positions includingRemington Rand. Eventually he channeled his entrepreneurial zeal and business knowledge to start a temporary help business, Add+A+Man, in 1954. Working tirelessly 14 hours a day, seven days a week, he successfully sold the business and moved to Prescott in 1980. While working at Wrigley¹s he met the love of his life, LoisCamit. Married on June 14, 1941, they shared a wonderful life until she passed away two years ago, just short of their 65th anniversary.Their union produced two successful children, Sandy G. Miller and Richard K. Grosscup. In retirement they were active in the Prescott community and traveled widely. Bob enjoyed taking family members, especially grandchildren, around the world. He had a lifelong affair with automobiles. He loved to work on, and especially drive, them.He is survived by his children; grandchildren Aaron K. Grosscup, Griffin Miller and Valerie Grosscup; as well as nieces and nephews Virginia, Lain, Beau, Lois, Sue, Jewel and Fred.Bob lived his life with a tireless zest for life and service to his fellow man by making this community a better place. His constant humor, smile and appreciation of the opposite gender will be remembered by all who passed his way.In lieu of memorial contributions, the family requests that you, too, volunteer your time and efforts for a charity, and pick up litter in and around Prescott.A memorial service will occur at a future date.
