Robert F. Balazik, age 69, lost his courageous fight with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) in the afternoon of December 31, 2019 at the VA Medical Center in Prescott surrounded by those who loved him.
Bob was raised in Houston, TX, and served with the United States Air Force from 1969-1973 at Aviano AFB, Italy. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Houston, where he became an award-winning computer graphic artist and illustrator, and met the love of his life and best friend, Margot. Bob and Margot were married in 1985, and moved to Maryland where he continued to develop his expertise in the graphic arts as well as his life-long passion for photography. After an extensive search, Bob and Margot chose Sedona for the location of their retirement home, which they designed and constructed in 2017-18.
Bob will forever be remembered for his huge heart, constant smile, quick wit, and selfless empathetic kindness, as well as his courage and resiliency during his valiant fight with fast-progressing ALS. He was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Bob is preceded in death by his father Robert, and survived by Margot, his loving wife of 35 years, his mother Sally, his sister Terry, extended family, multiple nieces, cousins, and numerous friends. We love and miss you more than words can say. May you rest in eternal peace.
A date for a celebration of life at the VA chapel in Prescott will be announced at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's name to The ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI), Cambridge, MA at www.ALS.net.
