Robert 'Bob' P. Bauer

Robert P Bauer sailed into life Halloween 1950 on Staten Island, New York and he slipped back out on the morning of January 30, 2011 in Dewey, Arizona. The oldest of eight children born to Robert and Marie Bauer, he survived thirteen years of parochial school and never looked back. He attended Stonybrook but left school to pursue what would become his lifelong career, Marine Re-Insurance. After brief stints at MOAC, the Home and the Atlantic, he joined Swiss Re-America where he enjoyed a thirty year career, ultimately rising to Managing Marine Director. He retired in 2006 and moved from Stamford, CT to Arizona in November 2007. Originally diagnosed with a brain tumor in April 1991, he was tumor free for 16 years before a reoccurrence in 2007. Bob never allowed his brain tumor or much of anything else to define him. He was always his own man, secure in who he was and content unto himself. He was a calm, fair and steady fellow who never held grudges nor had bad thoughts even when others would have done so. He always lived by the tenet that getting worked up about it wouldnt fix it. He was an amazing pair of shoulders for everyone to climb up on and he created a safe place for his staff, family and friends. Bob might dismiss you, but he never judged. He just got about doing what needed to be done and let the chips fall where they may. He was filled with grace, joy and best of all a wacky sense of humor that he brought to all who loved him. He traveled the world, but his favorite trips were the father/son excursions he enjoyed with Brett. He leaves behind his wife of 32 years Gretchen and his adored son Brett of Portland, OR. He is also survived five of his six sisters (Carol, Susan, Diane, Karen, Lori), brother Richard as well as many nieces and nephews and his in-laws, Caryln and Heather Cronrath.
