Robert A. Steinborn

Robert (Bob) Steinborn passed away on July 10, 2014 at the Prescott VA Hospice at the age of 96. He was born October 21, 1917 in Griggs County, North Dakota. Bob Steinborn lived most of his life in Portland Oregon, where he worked as a manufacturing jeweler for 38 years. He married his wife, the former Marjorie Matthews, in 1942 and they celebrated their 70th anniversary here in Prescott. Bob worked as a welder at sawmills and logging camps in Oregon before World War II. He served in the US Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945, seeing action in Italy and North Africa with one of only two American units flying Spitfire fighters. After his wartime service, he became active in the Masonic Lodge in Portland, and later in the BPOE (Elks), in Sherwood, Oregon and later in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. He also volunteered extensively with the Boy Scouts. He led an active life, spending many happy hours trout fishing and camping with his family. He had a vibrant and lively personality with a great sense of humor. Bob and his wife moved to Rio Rancho New Mexico in 1994, then to Las Fuentes Resort Village in Prescott in 2000. Bob is preceded in death by his wife Marjorie, his father George Steinborn, his mother Ella (Know) Steinborn Felzer, and his sister Florence (Steinborn) Wheeler. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Terry and Sheila (Savannah) Steinborn, of Prescott and long-time close friends Dan and Kathy Strauss of Chino Valley. He spent his last months under the loving care of Robbin and Mike Dohm of Chino Valley. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
