Richard Wade Marcum passed away at the age of 68 on June 25, 2018 in Prescott, Arizona, following a valiant struggle against what proved to be insurmountable ailments. He is survived by his daughter Hannah Marcum of Phoenix, Arizona, his brother Lance Marcum of Fair Oaks, California, and by Peggy Marcum of Prescott Valley. The son of Mickey Marcum and Col. E. L. “Marc” Marcum, a fighter pilot and career Air Force officer, Rick enjoyed what he called an enchanted childhood, growing up on air bases around the world. He graduated from the International High School in The Hague, Netherlands, received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Long Beach State University, and earned his M.B.A. from Thunderbird School of Global Management in Phoenix. Rick had a long and highly successful career in the fields of business and education. Rick was a small business owner, served on Governor’s task forces, mentored new entrepreneurs, taught business classes as an adjunct professor for 35 years and spent 13 years as the Director of the Small Business Development Center at Yavapai College. A lifelong traveler, Rick especially enjoyed camping and taking long road trips to visit friends and family across the country. He was a talented photographer, had no equals on the barbecue grill and made the world’s best Bloody Mary. He was a master storyteller who always left his audience roaring with laughter. He was a dedicated father, a loyal brother, and a wonderful friend who will be sorely missed by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 8th, 11:30am at Fujiyama Restaurant in Prescott.
