Richard Raymond Howell

Richard Raymond Howell, age 83, passed away December 30, 2020, in Prescott, Arizona. The third of five children, he was born June 27, 1937, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Howard and Gladys Howell.

Richard grew up in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, California. At age 17, he joined the California Army National Guard and proudly served as an active-duty reservist for six years, achieving the rank of staff sergeant.

Richard met and married Dorathy Hyde in 1959. They raised one son and one daughter in Chatsworth, CA. The family enjoyed camping and dirt-bike riding, and they made their home a welcoming place, where many wonderful memories were created.

Starting his sales career behind an auto parts counter, Richard quickly became sales and marketing manager for American Parts System, where he worked for 11 years. He then joined the AC Delco division of General Motors, serving as district sales manager for a large area of Southern California, then the state of New Mexico, before retiring after 21 years.

Richard and Dottie then made Prescott, AZ, their home for the next 28 years. In retirement, he maintained strong convictions about government and politics and was an avid football fan. He was an active member of his parish for many years and volunteered for several years with the Saint Vincent de Paul Society in Prescott.

Richard was a devoted husband to Dottie through 59 years of marriage and her long struggle with multiple sclerosis. He was a man of deep integrity, fierce loyalty, generosity, and determination. He cherished family and friends, and he brought love and laughter to everything he did.

Richard is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, one sister, one brother and sister-in-law, one grandson, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Dottie, in 2019 and their daughter, Pamela Howell, in 2015.
