Richard Frank Cummins was born in Jackson Michigan on April 11, 1929. His soul was released back to God on December 13, 2010. He was able to be at home until his last breath, cared for by his loving wife of 60 years and his daughters, Dana and Frankie, with the support and assistance of Rosemary, Carol, and a wonderful hospice team.
Dick was a combat veteran in the Korean war and spent 25 years as a corrections officer at the Jackson Prison in Michigan. After retiring, he and his wife, Nan, traveled the country they loved for several years before settling in Florida, where they lived in a wonderful community and made many new friends. In 2007, Dick and Nan moved to Arizona to live their remaining years with their daughter, Dana.
Dick was known for his kindness and smart wit all of his life. Even when Alzheimers Disease had taken its toll, he would still give pokes with his cane and grin like a Cheshire cat, remaining mischievous and sweet through all the sadness. Nan always felt like the luckiest woman alive to have such a wonderful sweetheart for over 64 years. After many years struggling with Alzheimers Disease, Dick made a peaceful exit, surrounded by family and friends.
Dick is survived and deeply missed by his wife, Nancy, his sons, Rick, Dave, and Paul, his daughter, Dana, along with their spouses Chiyoko, Janet, and Frankie, his grandchildren, Lisa, Josh, Sean, and Mark, several nieces and nephews, and many wonderful friends. Dick was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Mary, brothers, William and Robert, and sister, Ruth.
Services will be held in Prescott, Arizona. Donations may be made in Dicks honor to the hospice program of your choice if so desired.
