Rachel May Cochran

Rachel M. Cochran died May 14, 2012, in Prescott, Arizona, She was born Dec. 14, 1922, in Gresham, Nebraska; the daughter of Leonard H. and Gertrude (Wilberger) Lanphere, and grew up on the family farm in Kimball, Nebraska. Rachel was 89 years old. Rachel and her husband Clifford moved to Prescott in 2010 after living for many years in Punta Gorda, Florida. Before retiring to Florida, Rachel and her first husband lived in Brookline, Massachusetts where she was an Executive Secretary for the Brookline Housing Authority. She served in the Armed Forces as a WAC from October, 1943, until May, 1945. Rachel enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, traveling, reading, and collecting treasures, such as thimbles, from flea markets. She loved wolves, kokopellis, clocks (particularly cuckoo clocks), and teddy bears. Rachel is survived by her husband, Clifford Cochran, her sister, Barbara Meyer, of Bushnell, Florida, and many beloved nieces and nephews, including Mickey Meyer of Lake Panasofkee, Florida, Kathy McHenry of Gilroy, California, Joe Lanphere of Las Vegas, New Mexico, Jackie Green and Jay Lanphere of Elizabeth, Colorado, Lori Tucker of Kansas City, Kansas, Becky Colvin and Rachel Chipman of Alliance,Nebraska, and Jan Varga of Chino Valley, Arizona. Rachel was preceded in death by husbands Henry W. Schroeder in 1985 and Donald R. Todd in 1996, her parents, Gertrude Lanphere in 1957, L.H. Lanphere in 1985, older brother Jean Lanphere in 1968, younger brother James Lanphere in 1982, youngest sister Patricia (Lanphere) Sherlock in 2005 , baby sister Janet Ruth Lanphere in 1937, and nephews Jim Williams and Kirk Lanphere. Rachel was most proud of her nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She will always be loved and missed as she was a very special lady, aunt, friend, and wife.



Visitation:
A viewing will take place at the Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff on Thursday, May 24th from 3 to 7 p.m.

Service:
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 25th, at 11 a.m. in the East Lawn Cemetery, Minatare, Nebraska, at the Lanphere family plot. Tom Serres, the Facility Director/Administrator of Prairie Pines Lodge in Chadron, Nebraska, and a family friend, will be officiating.
