Paul Charles Marince

Paul Charles Marince was born at home in Morrisdale, PA, on December 27, 1921 and passed away in his sleep on November 4, 2013. He was born into a large family and learned independence, dedication to hard work, and an appreciation for the Arts. Paul attended the University of Michigan for one semester and then enlisted in the Army Air Corps after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Paul piloted a B-17 bomber and flew 30 missions over Germany from England, and received the Distinguished Flying Cross. After WWII he returned to the University of Michigan and completed his degree in advertising. He married Irene Carol Johnson in 1948 and they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in August of 2013. Paul and Irene have five sons: Mark, Charles, James, Paul T., and Peter. Paul was a family man, a conscientious citizen, and a patriot. He was principled, caring, and had a strength that all could lean on. In 1990, Paul retired and moved to Prescott, AZ with Irene. While in Prescott, Paul led an ideally active social and recreational life. Frugal, unselfish, honest, and sacrificing all defined the man Paul was. He was exemplary of the Greatest Generation that enabled us to inherit the legacy of freedom. Paul was a fighter until the end, not wanting to leave his family even as his health failed. While increasingly weak in recent weeks, he always warmed up to a visit and put on a good face. We are all fortunate that he allowed us the time to see him in his last few weeks to say our “goodbyes”. Like anyone, Paul needed help in sustaining his life, and our family would like to recognize our mother, Irene, for her years of love, patience, sacrifice, and support. Brother Mark watched over our parents for years and along with his sons, Chris and Chad, was a great help in attending to the folks. Cousin Sue frequently visited Irene and Paul, bringing them love and good cheer. Having travelled to Prescott for Dad’s last weeks, we commend brother Paul Thomas for his strength in supporting Pop in his final days. Finally, the family would like to acknowledge our two angels, Patty Fields, and Debbie Buchta, who helped keep body and soul together for our parents. Paul is survived by his wife, Irene; five sons: Mark, Charles, James, Paul T., and Peter; sister Theresa; niece Sue; grandchildren Amber, Christian, and Chad; and great grandchildren Griffin andpLucy. All in all, our father had a good and complete life. He was a great man and we are all better people for our relationship with him. Paul shall be remembered with much love and respect. Please join us in celebrating his creative life and wishing him a peaceful farewell.
