Patricia Ann Cowell

Patricia Ann Cowell, a resident of Prescott since 1994, Mrs. Cowell died in Prescott on March 28th, 2018, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Grandview, Washington in 1925, and raised in the Yakima Valley, she was a graduate of Yakima High School. She attended Washington State University and earned three degrees: a B.A., a B.Ed. and an M.S. in Physical Education. After graduation she taught high school in Washington State for several years.

She is survived by her husband Curtis Cowell of Prescott, and three sons: David Cowell of San Clemente, CA, Mathew Cowell of Prescott, AZ, and John Cowell, of Rockford, Michigan. There are three grandsons: Ryan Cowell in Maple Valley, Washington, Ben Cowell in Ohio, and Kevin Cowell, a graduate student at the University of Washington. A brother, Alan Bunch, resides in Seattle.

Pat was an accomplished pianist, and accompanied fellow students in musical recitals around Washington State. She particularly enjoyed the annual Phoenix Symphony series of performances in Prescott and the Acker music festival here in Prescott each winter.

She was always active in her communities, serving as Den Mother to her boys Cub Scout pack, supporting the local little league baseball program, and as an officer in PTA groups at her kid’s schools. She also minded the family labrador Sarge, and the boys feisty parrot, Pedro.

Pat retired with her husband to the Pine Lakes Community in Prescott in 1994. Pat loved to hike in the mountains of northern Arizona, leading many hikes with the Pine Lakes Hikers. She hiked with her friends to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and the top of Mount Humphrey, on the Prescott Circle Trail, and many other trails in Arizona and Utah.

She and Curt traveled extensively in retirement, to Alaska, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and Europe, and in many trips around the States in their small airplane.

Pat was loved by her family and everyone who knew her. She was a wonderful wife, mother and friend.

At her request, no public ceremony is planned. A gathering for immediate family is to be held at a later date.

The family wishes to thank the staff and home nursing group from Good Samaritan Marley House in Prescott for their dedicated and skillful help for Pat.
