Olia Shearer

Olia Lee (Hopkins) Shearer, a longtime resident of Chino Valley, Arizona passed away peacefully on Sept. 22, 2021, at Yavapai Regional Hospital in Prescott, Arizona surrounded by family. She was born on March 31, 1936 in Rock Castle, KY.

After the death of her mother at age 8, she and her three brothers were raised in an orphanage until the age of 15. While there, she became a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She also joined the loving family of Alan and Viola Hintze. In 1951, she met and married William “Bill” Dean Shearer (1930-2009) in Hamilton, Ohio while Bill was on leave from the Vietnam war.  Together they loved and raised five children, Kimberley Sue Irwin of Prescott Valley, Arizona. Beverly Shearer Taylor of Beaver, Utah. Mary Beth Shearer Stevens of Riverside, California. Nathan Shearer of Chino Valley, Arizona and Jonathan Shearer of Prescott Valley, Arizona.  She often said the best time of her life were the years she cared for her young children. She was a master homemaker skilled in gardening, cooking, canning, sewing, and crafting. After raising her family, she dedicated herself to caring for the elderly as a Head of Housekeeping at Mountain View Manor.

To all who knew Olia, she will be remembered as a faithful follower of Christ who devoted her life to serving her family and those in need. Olia had several hobbies, including gardening, making crafts, cross stitching, canning, and cooking.
