Norman Edward Gallant

Norman E. Gallant passed away peacefully after battling cancer, on June 3, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born July 12, 1932 in Penobscot, Maine; the son of Edward Phillip and Eva Louise (Turbide) Gallant. Norman was 76 years old.    Norman married the love of his life Phyllis Vivo Amore on June 5, 1954. He joined the United States Air Force in Leominster, Massachusetts in 1949. Norman enlisted as a Radio Mechanic, attended Officer Candidate School, and continued his military career as a Navigator. He served his Country proudly for 22 years before retiring in 1971 as a USAF Major. He received his Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from Abilene Christian University in Texas. Together Norman and Phyllis had six wonderful children Patricia, Pamela, Paula, Norman II, Peggy, and Neal. Norman was a loving father who taught Aerospace Education and coached high school track. He lived in Illinois before moving to Dewey, Arizona where he and his wife Phyllis enjoyed their retirement together. Norman was a member of Saint Germaine Catholic Church, where he was an usher; VFW; AFA; and NACMOAA. He enjoyed flying airplanes; golf; military reunions; Yavapai Theatre; traveling in their RV; boating; fishing; and music.   Norman was well known for his mentoring and positive influence. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.    Norman is survived by his devoted wife Phyllis Gallant of Dewey, AZ; daughters - Patricia Gallant of San Jose, CA; Pamela Gallant of Northwood, NH; Paula Gallant of San Jose, CA; Peggy (Michael) Devereaux of St. Louis, MO; sons - Norman (Mary Jane) Gallant of Bolingbrook, IL; Neal Gallant of San Jose, CA; brothers - Lane Gallant of Las Vegas, NV; Gerry (Barbara) Gallant of Leominster, MA; sister - Michele (Paul) Hakala of Brookline, NH; grandchildren - Ryan, Anthony, Stephanie, Christina, and Tyler.     In Lieu of Flowers, please make donations to: Gateway for Cancer Research 1336 Basswood Road Schaumburg, IL, 60173 Phone: 847-342-7450 http://www.gatewayforcancerresearch.org/donations.cfm.
