Nathan Paul SoudersDecember 30, 1964 - January 5, 2020 Nathan (Nate) Souders, of Prescott Valley, Arizona died unexpectedly on Sunday January 5, 2020 as a result of an automobile accident. The details and the cause of his death are still undetermined and an investigation is ongoing.
Nate was in born Norwich, New York, December 30, 1964 to Marjorie (Mickey) Johnson of Myrtle Beach and the late John (Foxy) Souders of Unadilla, New York. Nathan is survived by his sometimes favorite brother Stephen Stark of Flat Rock, North Carolina, Roxanne Stark of Clarence Center, New York and their three children Lauren/Rori and her husband Joseph Tehan of Fruita, Colorado, Wesley Stark also of Fruita and Alicia Stark of Clarence Center, New York along with honorary family members: Terri Doupe, Drew Phelps, Rick Bucalo, Trina (Santillo) Cadet, and Allen Conway. In addition, Nate is survived by two younger sisters, Trisha Rubin (with her husband and children) and Kari Becker (with her husband and children) and two aunts Susan Mayhew and Bonnie (Tom) Emmerson. Nathan was predeceased by his much-loved older sister Elizabeth Stark in 2000.
Nate was life-long member of the central New York-based Johnson Clan of aunts, uncles, cousins and family members named for his mother’s large family including Jean Markiewicz of Myrtle Beach, Charlotte & Don Wenzel of of Myrtle Beach, Linda Bradford of New York, Jackie and David Bowman of Oregon, Verna & Dan Broekhauzin of North Carolina, Elaine and Ira Rohinsky of Myrtle Beach, Jane Cook and Bill Simmons of West Virginia, Lauren Miller of North Carolina, Gary and Kim Moore of North Carolina, Tim and Shelly Moore of Tennessee, Annette and Tom Monday of Norwich, New York, Tom and Shiela Cook of Maryland, and Bryan & Kate Moore of North Carolina.
Nate was predeceased by Johnson Clan members Grandma Verna Johnson, cousins Lloyd, Mark Johnson, Diana, Earnie, Vickie, Jason, Larry, Tom, Aunts Annie and Doris, Uncles Don & Ralph Johnson, Tom, Vic, Roy and Dick.
Nate was involved in many activities while growing up in Norwich including championship Pop Warner Football, Spaceball and swim team at the YMCA, basketball, varsity baseball and football. Nathan skied as part of Ski Club and traveled widely seeking adventures throughout central New York. While in Norwich, Nate worked at the Victory Markets’ South Plaza store and became an accomplished carpenter and cook through BOCES.
Nate was known affectionately growing up in Norwich by many nicknames including: Homer, Home Dog, Scooter, Skater, Crash, Nater, Nate the Great, Pooh Bear and Nuttsie.
After graduating Norwich High School in 1983 Nate moved to Fairport, New York with Drew Phelps where he established himself in the east Rochester markets as a home building subcontractor in residential construction and remodeling.
In the late 1990’s Nate moved west to join his mom and sister who were living in Arizona at the time. There he spent most of the last 20+ years in and around Phoenix, Las Vegas and Prescott working primarily in the construction field.
Nate loved music and was a gifted writer, artist and budding inventor at the time of his passing.
As of this writing, there are no formal plans for a funeral or a memorial service. Hopefully a celebration of Nate’s unique life will be held in Norwich this summer. Please consider a donation to the Norwich Family YMCA in Nate’s memory!
