Nat P. Robbins

Nat P. Robbins, 93, of Prescott, Arizona, passed away March 27, 2015, surrounded by family and friends. Born in New York City on April 19, 1921 to Benjamin and Rebecca Rabinowitz, he married Gladys Sachs on April 16, 1943. Nat joined the Army and served during WWII under General George Patton in the European Theatre, along with his younger brother Irv. After moving to Prescott in 1991, he became very active with the Disabled American Veterans Prescott Chapter 16, where he was recognized for his many hours of volunteer service at the Northern Arizona VA Medical Center. It was his great honor to be inducted into the Arizona Veterans Hall of fame in 2011. He earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from New York University in 1948 and a Master of Science in Engineering Computer Science from Arizona State University in 1972, and worked for General Electric and Honeywell in Phoenix. He was a man of many talents. After moving from New York to Phoenix in 1957, Nat was active with the Cub Scouts, served as a Boy Scout Troop Leader and a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor. He was a member of the Powderhorn Clan, American Mountain Men and the Sierra Club. He participated in Mountain Man demonstrations at Pioneer Village in Phoenix, Sharlot Hall Museum in Prescott and at numerous Mountain Man Rendezvous events. Nat said his happiest times were sleeping under the stars and then coming home to his wife. He was a master gunsmith and the owner of Custom Long Rifles. He ran several marathons in his 60’s, coming in first in his age division in the 1981 Copper Valley Marathon and second in his age division in the 13th annual Fiesta Bowl Marathon. After his retirement from Honeywell, he served as general contractor for the house he and Gladys built in Prescott. He is survived by his wife Gladys S. Robbins, sister-in-law Mimi Robbins, daughter Jean Sweeney, son Bennett Robbins, granddaughter Jill Workman, and great-grandson Devin Workman.
