Mary E. Meinke, 94, Of Prescott, AZ, Died on May 1st, 2023, at Granite Gate Senior Living. A remembrance and prayer were made at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Prescott, May 14th. Pastor Burke led the Mother's Day service.
Graveside service is expected this September. Her remains will be laid to rest with her husband Robert at Deer Valley Veteran's Cemetery.
Mary was born June 15th, 1928 in Seattle Washington, to Grinade and Eulela MacGregor. By mid 1932 her family had settles in San Diego where she was raised with her brother James and sister Francis.
Mary graduated from San Diego High School in June 1946.She celebrated adulthood with a bus trip to Ely, Nevada to visit an aunt. She then had seasonal employment at Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park.
Mary earned an Associate of Arts Secretarial Degree June 6th, 1949 from San Diego Junior College.
Mary Married Robert Meinke on September 8th, 1951
Mary was also a secretary for an ear, nose and throat doctor and also at First God Shepherd Lutheran Church, Las Vegas, NV.
Mary attended the Danish Lutheran Church of Solvang, CA while living in Santa Ynez, north of Santa Barbara.
Mary moved to Prescott, AZ with Bob in 1980. By 1981 they were operating a flight school at the airport, a venture which lasted until Mary became widowed in 1998.
Mary's zeal for discovery and travel continued. Undaunted by the 9/11 tragedy, she traveled to England and Ireland a few weeks thereafter.
Mary explored national parks; from Volcano national park in Hawaii, to seeing the sunrise, (first in the USA), from atop Cadillac Mountain at Acadia National Park, Maine.
Mary enjoyed wildlife, birding, and the spray of waterfalls on Safari in southern Africa as well as visits to Central America.
In her early eighties, Mary rode cog trains to the tops of Mount Washington in New Hampshire and Pikes Peak in Colorado. She observed icicles formed horizontally in gale force winds and felt at peace in the presence of The Creator.
Survivors are her two sons: Robert Meinke of Corvallis, Oregon and Charles Meinke of Prescott Valley, Arizona as well as two grandsons-Brennan and Triston.
