Mary Ann 'Townsend' Persons

Mary Ann Townsend Persons, died Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at her sisters home in Prescott. She was born February 15, 1938 in Bismark, North Carolina. The daughter of Leon Roy and Eloise (McKee) Townsend. Mary Ann was 73 years old.

Mary Ann had a Ph.D. in Phsychology. She worked for the schools systems in Durango, Colorado as well as in Chilton and Milwaukee, WI. In her lifetime of work Mary Ann was most proud of her efforts for young people during the race riots in the 60s.

She was a beacon of light for many who knew and loved her. Mary Ann accepted her dying and planed her own funeral. She would say: It is what it is.

Mary Ann is survived by her sister, Carol Townsend of Prescott and brother, David (Mingyon) Townsend of Kewannee. WI; nieces, Teresa Bordowitz and Cathy Benecke and nephews, David and Roy, many cousins and dear friends.

A Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 150 Fluery. Prescott, Arizona

Mary Anns favorite charity was St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
