Mrs. Mary Ann Henry, born Mary Ann Dorsey to Henry and Elizabeth West Dorsey, May 14, 1913. She was one of eleven brothers and sisters born and raised in Owensboro, Kentucky all of whom have preceded her in death.
MaryAnn, or Ann as she was affectionately known, spent many of her early years in Owensboro on the West Family farm. She later moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where she met and fell in love with Robert Bud Page. They lived in Indianapolis for many years and later divorced.
Ann met and later married Joseph P. Henry. Her husband was a plasterer in construction and they moved many times in the early years during World War II wherever work was to be found.
While living in Washington State, she worked at the shipyards. During a push for war bonds she had the honor of having a USS Light Destroyer named after her, the USS MISS ANN.
Ann and her family moved to Los Angeles, California before the war ended. There, she met many friends and became involved in the Eastern Star, a charter member of the Grand Poppy Lodge, rising to the position of Most Worthy Matron.
In Los Angeles, Ann became a member of Victory Baptist Church and later joined New Life Baptist where she was an active member for many years.
They moved many times in the Los Angeles area finally settling in their first home in 1950. Later a second child was born to this union, David Pride Henry, (now deceased).
After moving to Hawaii her second husband passed in 1958 while working in Pago Pago. Ann returned to Los Angeles where she purchased a second home where lived until 2005.
Because of an oncoming illness Ann moved to Prescott, Arizona with her oldest son. She attended church at ST Luke Ebony Christian Church where she was affectionately called Mother of the Church by Pastor Hobson.
Suffering with complications from dementia and heart problems, Mary Ann Henry was called to rest on November 25, 2010 at 7:30 a.m.
Mary Ann leaves behind her lasting memory and one son, Robert, five grandchildren: Roxanne, Stephanie, Anthony, DeJuan, and Marquita, four great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews belonging to her many siblings. She also leaves behind many sisters of her Eastern Star Lodge.
