Marlys Grace Opie

Marlys Grace Opie (Besser, Baldwin) age 91 born April 14, 1927 in Pomona, CA, passed away on December 8, 2018, in Prescott Valley, AZ.   A longtime resident of Las Vegas, Marlys attended Las Vegas Grade School and Las Vegas High School. In 1948, Marlys married Hubert H. Opie and they resided in Las Vegas, NV. Marlys was a mom and homemaker for many years. Marlys enjoyed very much the time she was employed at the Las Vegas Country Club until she retired in 1989.   Marlys moved to Prescott, AZ in 2005, residing in Victorian Estates and the Las Fuentes Senior Resort community until she moved to her grandson’s home in September, 2018, under home hospice care.  Marlys is survived by her daughter, Susan Fields (Jack) of Prescott Valley, AZ, grandchildren Jack Robert Fields of Prescott Valley, AZ; MarJeanne Fields Buckner (Skyler) of Phoenix, AZ; and Jack William Fields (Stephanie) of Denver, CO. Additional surviving family members: brother Robert Strange (Ruthie) of Solana Beach, CA; sister Norma Larned (Michie) of Upland, CA; sister Joyce Keller (Chayne) of Dateland, AZ; sister Jerene Entzminger (Paul) of Meridian, ID, sister-in-law Helen Wainwright of El Paso, TX; and many nieces, nephews, and loving extended family members.   Marlys is predeceased by her husband Hubert H. Opie; mother Ruth Anna Baldwin Strange; father Gale Fulton Besser; and sister Roberta Strange.  Memorial services and burial will be held at Palm Mortuary and Mausoleum in Las Vegas, NV. 

The Fields family would like to extend our gratitude to the staff at Kindred Home Hospice and Kindred Home Health, Prescott for their attentiveness and exceptional loving care. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the charity of choice or as a memorial under the name of Marlys Opie to Kindred Hospice Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
