Marilyn Siegel

Marilyn Siegel was born June 9, 1931 in Brooklyn NY the oldest of three children to Harry and Anna Wiener.  Known to all as Mimi, she is survived by her brother Gene, her children Heidi, Jeffrey, Eric, and David plus ten grandchildren. In her early 20's, not long after the end of WWII, Mimi met Henry Siegel at Brickman's hotel in the Catskill Mountains of NY. They married a year later and settled in Brooklyn, starting a family of four children.  The family moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1967 to help Mimi overcome a painful and potentially crippling arthritis exacerbated by the humid climate of NYC. For Mimi, this was a return to a place of her youth where she spent a couple of years in the 1930's living in Tucson with her grandparents, in the aftermath of the great depression.  Unlike her parents, Marilyn was born in the U.S. a first generation American.  She saw the world through different eyes than her parent's who emigrated from the Ukraine in the early 20th century. She was known as being particularly adventurous, including after school excursions with her friends to Coney Island and traveling with her Uncle on his yacht in the 1940's from NYC to Miami, Florida. Marilyn and Henry became world travelers following his retirement with trips to Europe, Asia, Canada, Alaska, and the tropics.  When not traveling, they were avid sports fans of the University of Arizona rarely missing a home football or basketball game.  She was also a lifelong mahjong player beginning to play as a teenager and teaching friends in Prescott in her 80's.
