Linda Mercer

Linda Ruth (Hopman) Mercer passed away on July 9, 2020, at her home in Prescott, AZ.  Linda was born on 11/28/1944, in Eau Claire, WI, to Minna and William Hopman, who have predeceased her. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Wayne Mercer, her daughters Jamie (Mercer) Escoe and Kristin Mercer, her granddaughters, Annabelle and Emily Escoe, and her sisters, Kathy Erno, Margaret  Holzhueter, Jane Bahr, and Judy Wilford. Another sister, Helen Whipple preceded her death. Linda attended college in Wisconsin and became an elementary education teacher in St Paul Minnesota, followed by teaching in the Philippines and Germany where she met Wayne, who was a US Army officer stationed in Darmstadt, Germany. They were married in Basel, Switzerland, in 1972. After Wayne’s overseas assignment ended, they both returned to Florida where Linda received her Masters Degree in Speech Pathology. She then worked in elementary schools in Florida, Texas, New Jersey, and concluded her professional career in Georgia. She earned a second Masters Degree while she lived in Georgia. She was widely respected for her teaching and speech therapy skills by her colleagues, loved by her students and received “Teacher of the Year” awards on several occasions. In retirement, Linda  was an Ambassador at the Estes Park, Colorado Visitor Center, continued as a volunteer in school systems in Colorado and in Arizona until her death, and volunteered her time at food banks and shelters for abused women. Linda enjoyed traveling with her family, was a superb photographer, enjoyed fly fishing, skiing, snowshoeing and hiking with her husband and friends. She was an incredible mother who deeply loved her children and grandchildren, and a fantastic, loving wife.
We know she is with the angels!
