Lawrence S. Coop, 83, of Dewey, Arizona passed away on January 19, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Survivors include wife of 59 years, Valerie; son Michael of Henderson, NV; daughter Debbi (Weeter) of Phoenix, AZ; and grandchildren Dustin, Trisha, Tiffany, April, Cody, Kaley and Austin. He was born August 22, 1930, in Joliet, Illinois and proudly served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force. After his Air Force retirement, he went on to serve another 20 years in Civil Service at Nellis AFB, Nevada. Larry and Valerie lived in Boulder City, Nevada during this time. Throughout his Air Force career, Larry and his family lived in many different states and in Germany. There are countless happy memories of family travels throughout the years. After retirement he and Valerie continued to travel. They enjoyed their motor home and often took one or more of the grandkids along. They looked forward to their cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska. They loved whale watching and touring lighthouses, and spent a lot of time on the west coast enjoying those activities. Their favorite vacation was to Hawaii to celebrate their 30th anniversary. Larry loved to fish. He spent peaceful hours on the lakes around Show Low, Arizona where he and Valerie lived after retirement. “Grandpa Larry” was also known for his tasty chocolate cakes that he loved to make for the grandkids’ birthdays.
