Kathleen Ruth Smith Brown, age 92, passed peacefully on July 21, 2021 in Prescott, AZ. Daughter of Albert Claude Smith and Ruth Mastries Smith, both teachers, she was born and reared in Missouri. Following her graduation from high school, she attended college in Los Angeles. Her college attendance was suspended in 1948 when she returned to Missouri where she married Arthur Harold Brown in 1948. They had three children by whom they are survived: Harold, Robert and Nancy (Brown) Christopherson.
As a young mother, she enjoyed writing poetry and music for children. She loved music and sang in the choirs of the churches they attended over the years. Her other interests were anthropology and painting watercolors. She eventually completed her college degree in Kansas and endowed a chair in anthropology.
Over the years, the couple traveled to England, the Continent, the Mediterranean and Africa where Kathleen especially enjoyed visiting Tanzania and the Masai tribes. Following Art’s retirement, the couple resided in Colorado and Arizona.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Sun Lakes United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Stepping Stones of Prescott Valley.
