Juan Fonsica passed away peacefully on March 22, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Marley House in Prescott.He was born in San Filipe Zambales, Philippines, on January 28, 1928.
Juan spent his first eighteen years attending school and at his grandmother’s farm among the mango trees, surrounded by rice fields, bamboo, and the river, in which Juan would fish.
At the age of 18, Juan joined the United States Navy in 1946. He served honorably for 24 years, working his way up to being head chef for the Admiral’s Quarters. Juan served in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and the Persian Gulf. He accrued many medals, ribbons, and accommodations. Juan became a member of the Golden Dragons after crossing the equator many times. Juan was aboard the ship that picked up our first space shuttle.
In his retirement, he became a member of the American Culinary Federation, Academy of Chefs, and Les Amis De Sophie. Juan was also a fine restaurant owner. He worked for many country clubs and NRAO’s. Juan also enjoyed traveling in his RV, dancing, gardening, and being with his family.
Juan is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
