Jon Carlton Fretland

Jon Carlton Fretland
Born May 18, 1949, to Alyce Evelyn McGoon Fretland and George Alvin Fretland in Eugene, Oregon.
Graduated March 16, 2022, to his Heavenly Home after a 2 year battle with End Stage Liver Disease.
Passed away in Cordes Lakes, Arizona with his wife, Michelle Elizabeth Williamson Fretland, of 47 years by his
side and the wonderful nurses from Maggies Hospice in Prescott. A big thank you to our neighbor Sharon Remmen
who was always available to help with Jon towards the last.
Jon’s mom and dad moved several times while Jon was growing up due to his dad’s employment as a salesman
for Tom’s Candy or Logging equipment. The lived in Ukiah, Santa Rosa and South San Francisco, California. Jon was a real
people person and made life long friends easily over the years. Too many stories to tell.
Landed in Arcata, California, Humboldt County, in 1964, the year of the “Thousand Year Flood”! “Never seen so much water!!” Graduated from Arcata High School in 1967, then into an apprentice program at Trinity Supply for heavy equipment mechanic. Accepted the Lord as his Savior at Sunnybrae Baptist Church, Arcata, California, while attending there in high school with his neighbors the Kiewels and the Shattucks. When his mom and dad were going to move to Oregon after graduation, he said I’m done moving and stayed in Eureka, California. His mom helped set him up in a “Batchelor Pad” single wide mobile home. His favorite location was at Carl Johnson’s MH Park on Jacobs Avenue in Eureka, many good times and life long friends, Butch Palmgren, Tom Pitard, Chrissy Oyler Myers and her mom Ann.
Met his wife, Michelle, at Grace Baptist Church in Eureka California, in 1973. After a short courtship and checking out all the other single ladies at GBC, he proposed to Michelle and they were married October 12, 1974. Jon and Michelle were blessed with 2 children and 7 grandchildren.
Jon worked for County of Humboldt during the years 1973 to 1995 as a heavy equipment mechanic, the road crew and drove the street sweeper. From 1997 to 2005 was his favorite occupation. He was a Bus Driver for Eureka City Schools and later Mechanic/Bus Driver. Loved his “kids” and they loved him and his shenanigans! Loved his work with HCAR as well!! Also enjoyed driving church bus for Missions Trips to Mexicali with GBC during Easter break. Many fond memories and shenanigans as well.
After retirement in 2011, Jon and Michelle moved to Prescott Valley, Arizona, to try a warmer and drier climate. Have made many friends & neighbors here. Found out Greelely, Colorado, was a wee bit too cold in the winter for a couple years (2016 to 2018), so moved back to Cordes Lakes, AZ.
Survived by his daughter Amber E. Wilson(Tim) and their children Brandon, Tyler, Samantha and Hailey; and survived by his son Scott C. Fretland (Sayde Mendes) and their children Olivia, Louis and Ethan. Numerous nieces and nephews and cousins and their children.
Preceded in death by his parents Alyce E. and George A. Fretland, maternal grandparents Sue Anne and Louis McGoon, paternal grandparents Mary and John Fretland, brother William Beilman, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will be holding a Celebration of Life in Humboldt County California at a later date
