John William Orr died peacefully on January 2, 2019, in a Prescott, Arizona hospice facility.
John was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1943, with a twin brother, James, who preceded him in death, as did an older brother, Frank, and a sister, Harriet, who died in childhood.
John had two careers, the first in banking; he worked at the Chicago City Bank and Steel City Bank. After moving to Phoenix, Arizona, he went to work for the State of Arizona’s Department of Economic Security until his retirement, after which, he and his wife, Pamela, relocated to Chino Valley, Arizona.
John was a lover of dance music, especially Motown, and was known among his friends for his dancing ability, which he continued to show off well into his 70s.
He was also a movie buff, with an encyclopedic knowledge of actors and their films from the Golden Age of Hollywood.
One of his great joys in life was his prowess at making – and even creating – incredible dessert dishes for family and friends.
John is survived by his wife, Pamela, his son, Scott, and his daughter-in-law, Rhonda.
