With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John B. Shelley II, who left this world far too soon at the age of 26 on September 15, 2024, in Yarnell, Arizona. Born on January 23, 1998, in Prescott, Arizona, John was the beloved son of John B. Shelley and Shawna A. Smith-Shelley. During his time at Wickenburg High School, John was selected to attend the FBI National Academy Associates “Arizona Leadership Education and Development (ALEAD) Academy,” a weeklong in-residence youth development program held in Washington, DC for youth interested in pursuing criminal justice as a career. John also took great pride in training and enjoying his beloved Yorkie Poos, Scooby and Shaggy, who were his constant companions.
A dedicated leader and patriot, JB was President of the Sons of the American Legion, Post 79 in Yarnell, Arizona. Honoring our country’s military heroes and serving his community were causes close to his heart. His unwavering commitment to service and his deep respect for those who sacrificed for our freedom were evident in everything he did.
JB’s kindness, sense of humor, and adventurous spirit touched the lives of many, and his absence leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved him.
A gathering of remembrance to honor John’s life will be held at 3:00 pm on March 8, 2025, at the American Legion Post 79, 22911 Looka Way, Yarnell, AZ 85362. Family and friends are invited to join in remembering and honoring the incredible person he was.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in JB’s name to Tunnel to Towers (t2t.org) or the Wounded Warrior Project (support.woundedwarriorproject.org), two organizations that align with his passion for supporting veterans and first responders.
Though gone too soon, John’s spirit, love, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. "Gone but never forgotten."
