John L. Cope died February 22, 2010 at his home in Dewey, he was 84 years old. John was born December 21, 1925 in Phoenix, AZ the son of John and Lila (Williams) Cope. John held various managerial positions for a telephone company, and at one point managed 500 phone operators of which all were women. John served his country in the US Navy as a Radio Operator on the USS Rockway. When WWII came to an end John was the operator who took the call that the war was over and that the enemy had surrendered. He is survived by his loving wife Carlene of 29 years, and his son Donald (Catherine) Cope of Louisville, Kentucky. John was preceded in death by his brother Livy Cope. John was a member of the Mountian View Baptist Church in Dewey. He enjoyed the art of silversmithing, enjoyed construction and remodeling. John was most proud of his son and wife.
