John Frank Phillips

John F. Phillips, 71, passed away on Saturday, September 6th 2014, following a battle with cancer. Born July 19th, 1943 in Fort Worth Texas, John attended Jesuit High School in Dallas Texas and graduated from the University of Oklahoma. After graduating he began his life long career in insurance with Aenta Insurance Company. He started in Los Angeles, California but was transferred to the Phoenix area where he met the love of his life, Susan (Susie) Hart. They were married in 1968 and remained in Phoenix until 1973 when he took a job with a Tucson Agency. In 1976 Oliver-Pilcher Insurance Agency offered him the opportunity to move to Prescott and run their office. In 1988 he purchased the agency. He successfully ran and owned John F. Phillips Insurance until he sold the business in 1998 to Poe & Brown Insurance and continued to work for them until he retired in December 31, 2000. John was committed to Prescott in many ways and he spent countless hours of service dedicated to the betterment of his community. He was a founding member of Silent Witness and Prescott Area Art Trust. He was a member of Kiwanis, Smoki, Toastmasters and served on the boards of Yavapai Exceptional Industries, Prescott Town Hall, and many more. John was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Parish where he served as a Eucharistic minister, lector and board member. John was beloved by his family and friends for his easy going and humorous nature. He was generous to all he met and he will be remembered for his big heart and love for his family and friends. John will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Susie of 46 years; daughters Julie (Dan) Raiss, Barbara (Tyson) Gentz, Tricia (Matt) Busch; son Joseph (Valerie) Phillips; his sisters Jayne Cunningham and Susan Brannan; grandchildren Jacob Phillips, Megan, Sarah &, Nicole Raiss, Lily & Nathan Gentz, Amelia & Robert Busch, Duncan Phillips; and numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his father Joseph Phillips and Mother Dorothy Phillips.
