John Dale Mellinger

John Dale Mellinger, died February 4, 2008 at Bob Stump VA Medical Centerin Prescott, Arizona. He was born December 22, 1923 in Warba, Minnesota the son of Kenneth John and Mildred Marie (Josephson) Mellinger. John was 84 years old.   John proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was captured by the Germany Army on his 21st birthday at the Battle of the Bulge; he escaped twice but was recaptured both times. His valor was rewarded with  a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and a Silver Star. After his release as a POW and his recovery he returned home to farm in Minnesota.   He enjoyed snow skiing, mountain biking and into his 80?s he played racquet ball twice daily. He really loved communing with nature especially in the forest around Show Low; where he would quietly sit and watch the wild life.   He is survived by his children; Ken (Ruby) of Prescott Valley: Debi Cannon of Show Low, Tim of Harlen, IA. Sue (John) Thompson of Perth, Australia, and Traci Mellinger of Sherman Oaks, CA. His sister, Naomi Lorence of Paso Robles, CA; grandchildren: Sara, Brian, David, Bethany Lindsey, Josh, Amy, Angie, Joel, Kevin, and Hannah and great grandchildren Caimyn and Ardiana.
