John D. Lamon

November 4, 1932 — November 6, 2011

John D. Lamon

John died November 6, 2011, at the Marley House in Prescott, AZ. He was born November 4, 1932, in Chicago, IL, the son of James and Mildred (Mount) Lamon. John had many roles in his life from his starring roles as an actor and a director but his passions were being a teacher and helping those in need. John was in college at St. Mary’s when he was called home to help his family when his brother James died as a casualty of the Korean Conflict. He and Midge provided a loving and consistent home for his parents in their later years and for his niece and nephews, especially the Fenwick family. John and Midge had a parental relationship with Kathleen, Michael, James, John and Paul Fenwick. He completed his BS at Loyola University of Chicago and his MA at DePaul. He taught in the inner city schools of Chicago for 33 years. He fulfilled his creative side as an actor in musical theater in Chicago and Lombard Parc Players and Prescott Fine Arts and combined both his roles by being the director of the Chicago Theater in the Streets program. He was ordained a Deacon in the Joliet Diocese in 1989. He was assigned to Sacred Heart when they moved here in 1991 being on senior status after his 75th birthday. John was very active in many programs at the church; a member and Chaplain of the Knights of Columbus, the men’s ministry and worked with the RCIA program. He was honored in 2009 with being the first recipient of YRMC Ray Roller Chaplain of the Year Award. John was also certified as a hospice chaplain and a member of the Christian Ministerial Association in Prescott. One of John’s loves was touring and on his and Midge’s 50th Anniversary trip he completed one of his life’s ambitions of visiting all 50 states. They traveled with Muriel Rabideau and friends on pilgrimages she lead to Rome, Israel and France. Lead supporting star was his wife of 52 years, Margaret “Midge”; other cast members include: his nephews Michael (Laura) Fenwick, John (Judy) Fenwick-Gillman, Paul Fenwick, Michael (Darlean) Diaferio, Frank (Cindy) Diaferio, Terry Diaferio, Chris (Jan) Diaferio and Ragnar (Irene) Peterson; niece Kathleen (John) Howe; sister-in-law Karen (Jack) Bavaro and 18 grand-nieces and nephews. There is a cast of many who will miss the man that was always “Suspiciously Well” and knew “The best was yet to come.” John was preceded in death by his brother James and his sister Mary Jane Fenwick.
