John A. Waddell died January 28, 2006 in Prescott, Arizona. He was born February 1, 1935 in Junction City, Kansas; the son of Alexander W. and Margaret (Whybark) Waddell. John was 70 years old. John graduated from Junction City High School; attended the University of Kansas, followed by a tour of duty in the the US Army. John than moved to the Kansas City area and became involved in the construction industry in various capacities. John moved to Arizona in 1966 and was active in the guest ranch business for a short time, however the construction was more promising so John became licensed in Arizona as a general building contractor and operated his own company for a number of years, in Wickenburg, Arizona. John was very active in Wickenburg community affairs serving on various municipal boards and commissions including a term on the cuity council. John sold his counstruction company in the early 80?s. He joined Del Webb Corp. and participated in the management and development of the ?Sun Cities? in Arizona, He retired from Del Webb in 1989 as vice president of construction operation at which time he moved to Prescott, AZ. After a year of retirement he joined the Yavapai County Building Dept. and in 2002 retired as Senior Building Inspector for the County. John had a life time interest in western life styles. He especially enjoyed seeing Arizona from the back of his horse, John, since his college days was a proud owner of a Corvette and a member of Prescott?s Vette Sette. John is survived by his wife JoAnn Rieder-Waddell; daughter Joan (James) Robinson of Bonner Springs, Kansas; sisters,; Dr. Margaret Ann Ellis of Valdosta, Georgia, Mary (Ronald) Chaney of Anthem, AZ and Patricia (Max) Fagerquist of Anderson, California; grandchildren; Ryan and Kyle and nieces Sandra and Lisa, and nephews, Lawrence and Ronald. A Celebration of John?s life with sharing of memories will be 2;00 p.m. Saturday, February 4th at the Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, 303 S. Cortez, Prescott, AZ 86303.
