Joan Patricia Capozzoli Brock passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 3rd, 2024, in her adopted home of Prescott, Arizona, after a brave battle with declining health conditions.
Joan was born on August 23rd, 1947, in New York, NY. She was the third of four children to parents Luke and Anne Capozzoli. She was incredibly close to her siblings Mariane, Rosemarie ("Cookie"), and Joe, as they grew up in the Alphabet City neighborhood of Manhattan, and later relocated to Brentwood, Long Island, where she attended Brentwood High School. Joan married Lawrence Tantillo in 1969, and raised three sons; Christopher, James, and John, eventually resettling the family in Mission Viejo, CA in 1979. In 1986, Joan earned a position as a library associate at El Toro High School in Lake Forest, CA where she worked for over a decade, creating a positive impact on the lives of countless students, while building friendships with numerous colleagues that would last a lifetime. In 1993, Joan fulfilled a lifelong goal of completing her college education by earning an Associate Arts Degree in Business & Commerce from Saddleback College in Mission Viejo.
After several years as a single working mother, Joan was introduced by her sister and brother-in-law to Walter Brock of Brooklyn, NY, who would become the great love of her life. The pair married in 2002 and later moved to Prescott, AZ in 2005. In the ensuing years; they built their dream home, while enjoying a richly-deserved retired lifestyle with a close circle of dear friends and family. Along the way, Walter became a trusted father figure to Joan's children, and an adored grandfather to her grandchildren. Walter and Joan were "attached at the hip", and he stood strongly by her side as her committed caretaker, and protective partner, throughout her final days.
Joan always put her family first, she took great pride in providing for her children, she always made an extra space, and an extra plate, for any friend or neighbor that came through the door. In her later years, Joan's life took on a new dimension, and a new meaning, with the arrival of her grandchildren Leo and Rocco Tantillo. She fully embraced her role as "Grammy" and became an integral part of their lives throughout their childhood, instilling the boys with a lifetime of loving memories.
At every step in her life's journey, Joan was passionately committed to her Catholic faith. It was this unwavering belief in the grace of God, and the power of prayer, that gave her strength and comfort during her greatest challenges. When faced with any problem, she pursued every possibility with persistence and determination. She remained an eternal optimist, who never lost hope, and always openly expressed her gratitude for the blessings in her life. She found joy in the simple things; cherishing every conversation with loved ones, every good meal, every warm cup of tea, and every sunset. Joan will be remembered for her outward appreciation of life's wonders, and her celebration of every joyous moment. Her eternal resilience, her strength of spirit, and her generosity will live on in the hearts and souls of her cherished friends and family.
Joan is survived by her siblings, her nieces and nephews, her beloved husband Walter K. Brock, her sons Christopher, James (and wife Linda & son Isaac) and John (and wife Megan) and two grandchildren, Leonardo & Rocco Tantillo. In remembrance of Joan, friends and family are invited to attend a funeral mass service at 10:30 am, Thursday October 3rd, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church: 16245 N 60th St, Scottsdale, AZ 85254.
