Jeanne Toors Stewart passed away on October 14, 2009 in her apartment at Las Fuentes Assisted Living, at the age of 90. A fourth generation New Yorker, she was born in Brooklyn, graduated from Berkeley Institute and Katharine Gibbs School. She enjoyed several secretarial jobs, the most interesting with Vincent Astor?s organization. She met her husband, Cecil, at St. Bartholomew?s Episcopal Church in Manhattan, N.Y. and was married there September 8, 1951. She lived in Chappaqua, NY, and Greenwich, Connecticut until her husband?s work took her to Omaha, Nebraska for 17 years and to Northbrook, Illinois for 3 years. They moved to Prescott in 1976. Jeanne?s interests included PTA president, Brownie Troop leader, Cub Scout Den Mother and breeding Pugs, obedience training, and showing dogs. In Prescott she has enjoyed hiking, gardening and extensive foreign travel. She belonged to PEO Chapter Y, Prescott Outings Club, Westerners, Dinner Club, Scots of Prescott, the Prescott Sister City Organization and St. Luke?s Episcopal Church. With her husband, she took four young professional women for a month-long stay in India on a Rotary Group Study Exchange. Jeanne is survived by her husband, Cecil, daughters Cindi Swope (Bob) and Cecily Gray (Joe), both of Prescott, and son, Charles Stewart (Barbara) of Las Vegas. Her grandchildren are Emily Martinez (Adrian) of Winslow, Genevieve Martinez (Ricky), Brian Lawler, Daniel Swope and Stewart Lawler, all of Prescott, and great-grandchildren Nizhoni, Shiliyha and Joshuah Martinez of Winslow. Services will be held at St. Luke?s Episcopal Church on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 10am. Memorial contributions may be made to Yavapai Humane Society (http://www.yavapaihumane.org) in Jeanne?s name.
